As with all of the Mainly Marathon races we have participated in, this one was fun with an interesting crowd of participants. There were three ladies dressed as Wonder Woman who asked us to stop running and take their picture. When they saw we were running instead of walking, they said never mind and waited for the next group of walkers to approach. The race directors provided bubble wands, and a few people were walking and waving them to spread bubbles along the way. The course in Hollandale, Mississippi was 18 laps in Leroy Percy State Park. The path was a road in the park, so it was plenty wide. It was very flat as well. The only negatives for the course were that the bathrooms were slightly off the course and the road was littered with bumps and cracks.
Mainly Marathons uses a looney bird as a logo. It was ironic to hear several woodpeckers in the trees throughout the morning.
This was a fun experience as we enjoy looped courses for a variety of reasons: access to fuel, opportunity to shed clothes and retrieve them, seeing a lot of friendly faces, and meeting new people.
